I-Scrap JHB - OCTOBER Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have been very bad on my blog lately.  I am going to endevour to post at least once a month with my schedule and what we got up to in the month !

This past month has just flown by and I cannot believe that Christmas is around the corner.  Have you started making your cards yet?  LOL.

On the 8th I had my double Celebr8 Travel / memories class.  Two amazing double layouts using this stunning range of papers.  Sadly kits are SOLD OUT, but please remember all notes of layouts are for SALE at R 50 per layout.  I will email notes to you.  (includes Silhouette cutting files if applicable)

I was recently asked to teach the "teachers" my faux pewter class at TROCRAFT.  What an honor, although quiet scary to teach your peers.  They enjoyed it though and I am sure you will see many more Faux Pewter layouts around soon.

We then had our First 2016 Scissor Sisters / I-Scrap  Road Trip  to Johannesburg on the 15th and 16th of October.  The PE function is scheduled for the 29th and 30th .  We had so much fun meeting all the girls.  Jenny from I-Scrap PE flew up and it was a great weekend.  I am so looking forward to flying down the end of the month to teach the PE ladies.  (I will be doing the Faux Pewter class in PE on the 28th of October at Scrapbook Nook, so if you are in the area, remember to book !)

Scrap Collections kindly allowed us to "pre launch" the new Travel range of papers at our event and I was fortunate to attend the launch of the new Travel Album on the 17th.   These will be available in store soon in kit format.  Perfect for all kinds of functions, trips, etc.  The Mini Journals are self assembly and include pieces, binding and book clip.  Stunning way to make a personalised gift.

I just loved this new GETAWAY collection by Scrap Collections and have also created some Doubles and a Single to share.  I will show you next week when sales open for Kits:
Here is a sneak so long:

I was fortunate enough to attend a FULL NIGHT scrap with Shain De Bruyn over the 21st of October too and managed to complete 3 double layouts and be awake from 6pm till 7am and run my shop after. LOL..   We used the fantastic new range by W&M and the girls loved scrapping till the early hours of the morning. Thanks Shain !

NEXT UP;  Road trip to PE 29 and 30 October.  Watch this space for more feedback.

Here is the fun sketch that we had to use for our BLOG HOP:

Using the fantastic Coffee Range of paper by a local South African Company Celebr8,  I created a fun layout celebrating good friends having coffee.
(click on image to view larger)

HESSIAN BUTTERFLY TUTORIAL:

1. Apply a thin layer of Modge Podge onto your Hessian / Burlap.
2. Let Dry Completely in the Sun
3. Once dry, run through your Die Cutting Machine (Cuttlebug and Tim Holtz dies work best) or handcut Butterfly shapes

4. Spray some Gauze with a Brown Ink / Spray (or stain with coffee)
5. Color your stamens brown, either with Fantastix and All Purpose Ink (or your Copic / Permanent Markers)

 6. Adhere stamen to the bigger Butterfly
7.  Adhere a small piece of gauze
8. Now stick your smaller butterfly on top

9. Color your brad to match your stamen
10. Adhere to top of butterfly
11. Use your All Purpose Ink and color edges of butterfly (or use Glitz or Glitter Glue)

MITRED FRAME TUTORIAL:

1.   Measure your size of your frame and cut out the middle.
2.  I used a JUMBO photo so used a 13cm x 18cm FRAME and cut a 2cm border all the way around and cut out the middle neatly.
3.  Using your Craft Knive, gently cut diagonally across each corner.  ONLY CUT the top layer of paper, NOT RIGHT THROUGH.
4.  Gently crack open the paper to reveal a Mitred corner.
5.  Ink the corner to define the edge
6.  Lay flat again and mat on a contrast cardstock color.  Remember to show cardstock all the way around the inner and outer area of frame.
7.  Add photo behind the frame.
8.  Raise frame with foam to add dimension..

KNOTTED ROSE TUTORIAL
1. To create the cute knotted roses, just tie knots into your JUTE and wind around and adhere with glue at the end when done.

Tutorial: Mini Open Booklet Element

I was lucky to work with the new FAIRY collection this week by Scrap Collections. On the ELEMENT sheet is the cutest little open Fairytale book.  This is cute way to create an interesting element on your layout.

If you don't have paper like this, you can find images on google, HERE , Just copy and print and use

BOOKLET:
1.           Cut out SMALL OPEN booklet. Using additional cardstock, cut out two more shapes the same size.
2.           Fold in half to find centre.  Using your molding mat, roll the back of the booklet sides so they are raised.
3.           Adhere centre of booklet flat and middles raised with foam, sides flat again. Stack all three layers. Roll top right and bottom left corners.

4.           Create a tassel and add to middle. (as per below)

TASSEL:
1.           Cut a small template from a scrap of cardstock about 5cm deep and 8cm wide.
2.           Cut a slit as per example
3.           Tie string around a few times to get the body of your Tassel.
4.           Cut two smaller pieces of string and tuck one under the top section and tie a knot (hanging off piece).
5.           Tie another around the gap you have a few times and tie a knot.  This ties the middle of the tassle.
6.           Cut off bottom section and neaten to create a tassel.

I hope these have inspired you to create some fun layouts with mini booklet.

Hugs, Mich
